As first-time parents to a baby boy, we struggled immensely with sleep in the beginning, especially during daytime naps and family visits. We quickly learned that a baby’s daytime sleep drive is lower, making naps highly sensitive to light. Even though our nursery had blackout curtains, they let in just enough ambient light to cut a fragile sleep cycle short. We eventually tried a travel blackout tent, and while the dark environment worked beautifully, there was one major flaw: the noise. I would spend 20 agonising minutes zipping the tent in slow motion, terrified of waking my baby. Too often, right before the zip was completely closed, he would wake up, and we'd have to start all over again. We desperately needed a way to put our sleeping baby down without making a sound.
